Dems Still in Trouble Despite Good News in Elections

A Reprieve, Not a Victory

Pundits will oversell the Democratic victory in Virginia, but it is time to place blame where blame lies. The major culprit for the state of the nation is the state of the Democratic Party. That party, much more than Donnie Trump or Jeff Sessions or any other disgusting/disturbing conservative is responsible for the fact that the nation is headed towards an irreconcilable division.

Since the election of Mr. Obama in 2008 the Dems have lost the Senate. They lost the House. They lost so many governorships that Republicans now hold more state houses than they have ever had in modern political time. They have lost massive amounts of state legislature seats, so much so that Republicans have complete control of many states. There are Republican governors in traditional Democratic states like Massachusetts, Maryland and Illinois. Democrats have several Senate seats only because Republicans nominated extremist idiots.

The DNC appears to be missing in action. The newly elected head of the DNC appears to be on permanent vacation although he did come back for a few days before the election to promote his party.  Will he continue to do so?  Who knows.  A former head of the DNC and major political strategist has leveled attacks on the Democratic party for no other reason than a desire to sell some books. The leadership of the party is old and slow.

In special election after special election in 2017 for House seats, Dems lost. Some places they were not even competitive. In Virginia a Republican candidate who should have barely gotten 40% of the vote, a man who was a lobbyist, a previous loser, and a man who adopted the hate tactics of Trumpism was competitive until the end when the voters around and in the cities pulled the Democrat to victory.  If the Democrat had lost the party might have never recovered.

So if Dems don't prevail in 2018 then maybe a new political party is needed. Yes that will be painful, and probably result in even more conservative dominance of government, but unless the Dems get their act together at the national level the destruction of the nation is almost guaranteed.  Dems, you have lived to fight another day, you have an opportunity, don't blow it.
