Texas Gov. Rick Perry Will Not Run For Re-election – Will Pray to Determine His Next Action

Everyone Will Be Praying With You Rick  - Praying You Just Go Away

After his failed attempt to capture the 2012 Republican nomination everyone thought that Texas Gov. Rick Perry was through with national politics.  Reports of his national political death may be premature.  In order to run for President in 2016 Mr. Perry had to stop being Gov. of Texas, and that is what he will now do.

“The time has come to pass on the mantle of leadership. Today, I am announcing I will not seek reelection as governor of Texas,” said Perry, speaking before supporters at a Caterpillar dealership in San Antonio. “I will spend the next 18 months working to create more jobs, opportunity and innovation. I will actively lead this great state. I’ll also pray and reflect and work to determine my own future path.”

As for the praying part, we just don’t think that given his past experience at an attempt at national office that God is really to eager to see Mr. Perry try again, and hopefully that is what Mr. Perry’s prayers will tell him.  Certainly most of us are on God’s side on this one.

And ss for his accomplishments in office, Mr. Perry thinks that the growth in the Texas economy was his doing, but the “Saudi Arabia of the Southwest” as Texas should be known is really just a repository of great mineral riches that is exploited by Texans, and Mr. Perry is no more responsible for Texas prosperity than the Sheiks who rule Saudi Arabia are for that country’s wealth.

The words said by the late Ann Richards, a predecessor of Mr. Perry’s in the Governor’s office about George W. Bush, “born on third base and thought he his a triple” the same can be said about Mr. Perry’s stint as Governor.  Stick this man in a state without oil and watch him blanket the place with abject misery.

As for his policies, Mr. Perry turned out to be a political coward.  One of the few good things he did in office was to try and require vaccination for women against HPV, a deadly killer.  Another was support for education of illegal immigrants, children brought to this nation when they were young and are victims, not criminals.  Then in the Presidential campaign he turned and ran away because of the political heat.  For many people, wilting under pressure is worse than not pursuing the policy in the first place.
