Another Republican Weighs in on the Rape-Pregnancy Issue – Indiana Senate Candidate Richard Mourdock Says “when life begins in that horrible situation of rape, that it is something that God intended to happen”

Where Do They Get These People From?

The comments of Missouri Senate candidate Todd Akin that pregnancy cannot result from rape have been well publicized, and if there is justice and reason in the world this man will be defeated in his Senate race and never again be seriously considered for public office.  And now Indiana Senate candidate Richard Mourdock has said something even worse.

Indiana Republican Senate candidate Richard Mourdock said Tuesday that pregnancy that results from rape can be “something that God intended to happen.”

“I struggled with it myself for a long time, but I came to realize life is that gift from God,” Mourdock said at a debate. “And I think even when life begins in that horrible situation of rape, that it is something that God intended to happen.”

And just to add insult to injury the candidate is outraged, outraged, that anyone would find offense with this horrific position.

“Rape is a horrible thing, and for anyone to twist my words otherwise is absurd and sick.”

Well, he did get the “absurd and sick” part right, just not applied to the right person.

And yes, once again Mitt Romney says he disagrees with the statements and disavows them.  Mitt, you have to keep doing this with respect to Republican candidates, when is it going to occur to you that maybe there is a big problem in your party?
