Patrick Buchanan May Be Gone from MSNBC – A Late Holiday Present is Better Than No Present At All

Maybe Racism and Anti-Semitism Is Not Acceptable After All

For reasons beyond the comprehension of ordinary mortals the political commentator Patrick Buchanan has for many years had employment as a television pundit, most notably at MSNBC.  The network has chosen to ignore the blatant anti-semetic, the anti-African American and the anti-non European aspects of Mr. Buchanan’s writings, probably in their desperate attempt to find a Conservative who could bless their station with the aura of objectivity.

Now MSNBC is finally reconsidering its decision to employee Mr. Buchanan.  The reason is the contents of Mr. Buchanan’s most recent book.

Phil Griffin, the president of the network, said in an interview here on Saturday that Mr. Buchanan might not be allowed to return to the channel because of the arguments in his most recent book, “Suicide of a Superpower,” which have been criticized by some civil rights organizations as racist and anti-Semitic.

[Editor’s Disclosure:  The Dismal Political Economist has not read Mr. Buchanan’s book and does not intend to.  Like everyone else, his supply of tolerance is limited].

Mr. Buchanan has a long history of offensive writings in this area.

[Editor’s Disclosure:  The Dismal Political Economist has read much of the earlier works of Mr. Buchanan.  Hence the first disclosure.]

The report on the current writings are like this.

Mr. Buchanan argues in “Suicide of a Superpower” — which has the subtitle “Will America Survive to 2025?” — that the “European and Christian core of our country is shrinking,” which is damaging the nation “ethnically, culturally, morally, politically.” The book also contains a chapter titled “The End of White America.”

So the head of MSNBC, whose supply of tolerance of offensive writings is also apparently finite says this

Mr. Griffin said, “The ideas he put forth aren’t really appropriate for national dialogue, much less the dialogue on MSNBC.”

No one, of course, should feel concerned that Mr. Buchanan will not be able to make a living.  Why, two words, “Fox News”.

Okay, everyone saw that coming didn’t they.
