Republicans Paul Ryan and Chris Christie Re-Thinking Entering Race for the White House

Not Really, But Political News is Slow

Yes We Can - Destroy Medicare
The Dreams Lives!

Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan is reported as re-thinking whether or not to join the Republican race for President.  This is one of the stranger “re-thinks” because Mr. Ryan is the author of a very unpopular Medicare privatization plan, a plan so unpopular that it led to the defeat of a Republican candidate in a supposedly safe  upstate New York state House special election.

The redistricting in Wisconsin also had to add Republican voters to Mr. Ryan’s district, to make certain he could even get re-elected to his House seat.

The Weekly Standard reports that the reason for Mr. Ryan’s thought process (?) is that

“He’s coming around,” says a Republican source close to Ryan, who has been urging the 41-year-old to run.

“With Paul, it’s more about obligation than opportunity,” says another Wisconsin Republican. “He is determined to have the 2012 election be about the big things. If that means he has to run, he’s open to it”

Mr. Ryan's Probable Role Model

So what is really going on here?  The Dismal Political Economist thinks that this is Mr. Ryan’s method of campaigning for the position of Vice President on a Perry or Romney ticket.  See one cannot campaign directly for that spot, so by suggesting that he is “Presidential” material Mr. Ryan cleverly positions himself into consideration.

Memo to Mssrs. Romney and Perry (and ok, to Ms. Bachmann also).  Take some advice from The Dismal Political Economist and take a look at those special election results before going further with this.  Really, take a good look.  You will thank him later.

As for Mr. Christie, a USA Today report said

GOP political strategist Karl Rove said last night on Fox that he believes Ryan and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who has been emphatic about not running for president next year, are rethinking whether to join the race.

No way, after courageously defending a Muslim appointment to the New Jersey court, Mr. Christie said no in a very emphatic way that the anti-Muslim forces will clearly understand.
