Obama Administration Recognize that Illegal Alien Children Brought to the U. S. are Not Criminals, They Are Children

Recognizing Reality and Compassion

The Face of Criminals - When Their Parents Brought
Them to the U. S.

One of the issues involving illegal immigrants to the United States is that when many came to this country they brought their young children with them.  Technically these young children were criminals, they were in the U. S. illegally and they were subject to all of the penalties that illegal aliens are subject to.  They were just too young to know this.

Tens of thousands, maybe more of these children have grown up in the United States, have graduated from U. S. high schools, some have served in the military, some have gone on to college and graduated with honors.  The question of what to do with these technically illegal residents has vexed everyone.  The Dream Act was created to allow these grown up children to remain in the U. S. if they met certain conditions.  It was defeated by Conservative in Congress.

Now the Administration has moved to review each of these individuals on a case by case basis.

The Obama administration announced on Thursday that it would generally not deport or expel illegal immigrants who had come to the United States as young children and graduated from high school or served in the armed forces.

White House and immigration officials said they would exercise “prosecutorial discretion” to allow these people to stay in the country while the government focused its enforcement efforts on higher-priority cases involving criminals and people who had flagrantly violated immigration laws.

President Obama is, in effect, doing administratively what he could not persuade Congress to do — allowing the secretary of homeland security to provide relief to a select group of students who are here illegally but show great promise.

Grown Up Illegal Aliens
 As They look Today

Let’s make sure everyone recognizes this for what it is, a brave action that is the right thing to do, but has huge negative political consequences.  The Karl Rove’s of the world who will channel tens, maybe hundreds of millions of dollars into anti-Obama ads will call this “amnesty for illegal aliens”.  They will not show pictures of young men and women, model residents who are making major contributions to America though service and work, but pictures of threatening ethnic thugs terrorizing our citizenry.

Accomplished Young Adults as They
Will be Shown in Conservative Political Ads

It will be difficult for the Administration to explain what they are doing, and if they cannot do so successfully they will suffer politically.  If they can explain, they should score political points, because their opponents will look like, well, look like what they really are.
